The Olympia High School football team fell to Apopka High School 25-23 Friday, Oct. 6.
The Blue Darters took the lead early in the game for a 6-0 lead, as they missed the extra point, with only three minutes left in the first quarter.
The Titans reached their opponent’s end zone at the beginning of the second quarter and took the lead with a 7-6 score. However, mere minutes later the Blue Darters scored another touchdown but missed another extra point, bringing the score to 12-7. Before halftime, Apopka took the lead with a field goal for a 15-7 score.
It was a defensive — and offensive — battle between the Titans and the Blue Darters until the final whistle was blown. Olympia managed to score another touchdown at the beginning of the third quarter, and even though it wasn’t enough for the Titans to recover the lead, a two-point conversion brought the game to a brief tie prior to Apopka scoring a touchdown with only two minutes left in the third quarter, which brought the score to a 22-15.
Neither team scored throughout the upper half of the last quarter but, with only two minutes left in the game, Olympia rushed a touchdown into the opposing end zone for a 22-21 score and another two-point conversion got the Titans a brief lead right before a field goal by the Blue Darters — with less than a minute remaining — got Apopka the 25-23 win.
