Following the Hamas attack against Israel in the Gaza Strip, local law enforcement is increasing security in Orange County.

According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, his department has stepped up its presence and patrols near synagogues and Jewish facilities in Orange County.

This is a precaution, Mina said.

From its official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sheriff’s Office officials said they “will stand to protect all members of our community and have increased our presence near synagogues and Jewish facilities.”

Similarly, Ofira Bondorowsky, CEO of Rosen JCC, announced Saturday the center is taking steps to keep its members safe.

"We are horrified by the terrorist attacks in Israel and are deeply saddened by the loss of life," she said. "The devastation that is realized by all parties involved when violence erupts is immensely tragic. We join with all who pray for a swift and peaceful resolution to the conflict.

"The safety and security of all who enter our doors is of the utmost importance to us," Bondorowsky said. "As an added precaution, we have taken steps to tighten security and increase staffing to ensure everyone’s safety. I just want to be clear that this is not in response to a direct threat or incident, but a precautionary measure."

According to the AP, at least 200 have been killed and another 1,100 wounded as of 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.
