Olympia High School alum Trevor Siemian, a National Football League veteran free agent, will sign with the New York Jets, pending a physical.
Siemian, a 31-year-old quarterback, will join the Jets' practice squad after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals in the preseason.
According to the NFL website, the decision to sign Siemian comes as a result of quarterback Aaron Rodgers' Achilles tear, Zach Wilson's struggles to move the ball and the Gang Green's 1-2 current record.
Siemian has started 30 games in eight seasons, since first drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
This is not the first time Siemian will play as a member of the Gang Green. In 2019, he made one start for the Jets and went 3-of-6 in passing for three yards before an ankle injury ended his season.
After the 2019 season, Siemian was part of the Tennessee Titans practice squad (2020), made four starts for the New Orleans Saints (2021) and was a backup quarterback for the Chicago Bears (2022).
