Dr. Phillips Elementary School has a new principal.

Autherene Leighvard has joined the Flying Eagle family replacing previous principal Christine Rogers.

The Orange County Public Schools Board approved the transition at its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Leighvard started in her new role Wednesday, Sept. 27.

She previously served at Pinewood Elementary School as assistant principal.

On Aug. 31, Rogers announced to families that after serving as principal for four years, she would be returning to the classroom at Windermere High School.

Rodgers said the change will allow her the time to focus on furthering her own education, as she is currently working towards her advanced degree.
