The Town of Oakland opened a small window of time for residents to qualify for a vacant seat on the Oakland Town Commission — but it was long enough for 13 people to vie for the position.
Commission Seat 3 was vacated when former Commissioner Sal Ramos unsuccessfully threw his hat in the election ring for the mayor’s position. Because no one originally qualified for the March 19 election, the town was required to appoint someone.
At the March 26 Town Commission meeting, elected officials created a process for appointment of vacant commission seats moving forward. The following day, an application was created for Town Commission Seat 3.
Thirteen residents submitted applications, and the Town Commission will review them at a work session set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. The candidates are requested to attend the workshop.
The town received applications from Trillshun Bacon, Emma Bell, Clayton Louis Ferrara, Anne Fulton, Nancy Furches, Scott Gordon, Teri Hamlin, Kris Keller, Edward Kulakowski, Adam John Messervey, Yumeko L. Motley, Ramos and Todd Tice.
The appointment will be made at the Town Commission meeting following the work session. The person selected will be sworn into office immediately and will serve the remaining two years of the four-year term.
