In the final game of the regular season, Horizon High girls flag football topped rivals Windermere High in a defensive struggle that saw just one score during its senior night.
With both defenses stifling their opposition throughout the game, two key interceptions from the Lady Hawks (13-2) brought home the 6-0 win on their seniors' celebratory game.
The first came after halftime and set up the Horizon offense with great field position, all freshman quarterback Fabi Kreubel had to do was find senior captain Kylie Will in the back of the endzone for the game's first and only score.
And just like Horizon coach Ethan Mankoff drew it up, Kreubel rolled to her right — with the Wolverines pass-rushers clipping at her heels — floated a pass just over the Windermere (3-6) defense and fell like a feather into the arms of the sure-handed Will for the touchdown.
While the first interception helped open the scoring for the game, the second key takeaway came in the fourth quarter and closed the door on any hope the Wolverines had of playing spoiler on senior night; and stealing a road win against their rivals.
It was the Hawks' lone returning All-Metro Conference team selection, senior Miriam Athay, who made sure the night went according to plan and called game on Horizon's senior night shutout.
