Severe weather postpones area season opening high school football games

Thanks to rain and lightning around West, Southwest Orange County area high school football games have been postponed or canceled.

Severe thunderstorms around West Orange and Southwest Orange County put a damper on opening night of high school football season with various area games being canceled or postponed. 

Of the 11 games scheduled for the area's 12 teams, only two went off without a hitch — TFA, who won in Tennesse against Lipscomb Academy, 28-23, on Thursday, and Windermere, who beat Harmony High on the road in St. Cloud, 21-3 — while the only game between two area teams, Olympia at Horizon, began at 9:30 p.m.

The other nine games have either been postponed or canceled. 

Here's the information that's been confirmed about if/when these games will be played.

  • Legacy Charter (0-1) vs. Jordan Christian (0-0), postponed until Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m.
  • Ocoee Knights (0-0) at Apopka Blue Darters (0-0), postponed until Saturday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m.
  • Dr. Phillips (0-0) vs. Lake Nona (0-0), postponed until Monday, Aug. 26. Time is TBD.
  • Lake Buena Vista (0-0) vs. Cypress Creek (0-0), postponed until Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
  • West Orange (0-0) at Evans (0-0), postponed. Date is TBD.
  • Windermere Prep (0-0) vs. Young Kids in Motion (0-0), postponed. Date is TBD.
  • CFCA (0-0) at Trinity Prep (0-1), postponed. Date is TBD.
  • Foundation Academy (0-1) vs. Lakeland Christian (0-0), canceled. No makeup date is planned.
