On Saturday, Aug. 17, residents Marilyn Potz and Liz Beavers spotted the distressed bird on Pine Street and West Third Avenue and called the WPD for help.

Residents Brett Beavers and Preston Lewis quickly came to assist, and officers Ryan Miller, Jerrell Ogletree and Cameron DeCarlo responded to the call from the department.

Brett Beavers even removed a sock stuck around the bird's beak, allowing it to fly free once again.

"We’re so proud of everyone involved for their quick thinking and compassion," Chief Dave Ogden shared on his Facebook page. "This is what community is all about!"
