Mamma's Comedy Show coming to Theatre South Playhouse in Dr. Phillips

The funds raised will help support the playhouse, which lost funding earlier this year when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed about $900 million in state projects as he signed the 2024-25 state budget.

A one-night only collaboration between Theatre South Playhouse and "Mama's Comedy Show" is coming this weekend to the Dr. Phillips area.

The special event will take place a 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Theatre South Playhouse, located at The Marketplace at Dr. Phillips, 7601 Della Drive, Suite #15, Orlando.

The unforgettable evening of family-friendly comedy and laughter will help support the playhouse as the nonprofit works to raise funds lost by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' veto of about $900 million in state projects, including $32 million in cultural and museum grants and related funding, as he signed the 2024-25 $116.5 billion state budget in June.

Some critics believe the move damages an almost $3 billion engine of the state’s tourist-powered economy, and the decision has left some of the 577 arts programs and 33 facilities around the state scrambling to plug holes.

The PG-13 show will feature the talented performers of Orlando’s own “Mama’s Comedy Show," which has been a staple of the Orlando comedy scene for more than 15 years.
