Guru Indian Restaurant, 2400 U.S. 27, Suite 101, Clermont, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in September.

Master chef Uday Kadam opened the restaurant in September 2014. Guru serves authentic Northern Indian cuisine.

Kadam said he is grateful for the loyal local customer base that has supported Guru since its inception.

“Many of our loyal long-term guests share that they first tried Indian cuisine here and loved it … so they keep coming back,” he said.

Kadam is from a small village 300 miles south of Mumbai, India. His father was a teacher — and Kadam’s first “Guru.” While Kadam attended college in Bombay, he worked at the famous Taj Mahal Hotel restaurant. He studied under many respected restaurant chefs, who taught and encouraged him in what would become his life’s most desired profession.

Kadam started his professional career as a manager for Marriott Hotel restaurants in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt. In 1982, he arrived to the United States, and in Orlando, he served as food and beverage manager at the Disney Polynesian.

“The word Guru means ‘master’ and ‘a sharing teacher,’” Kadam said. “Growing up, I was fortunate to work for and learn from the best of the best at Marriott and Disney.”

Guru has received numerous awards for its food and service from the Orlando Sentinel, Clermont Sun’s People’s Choice Awards, Style Magazine, Orlando Weekly, Tampa Tribune, South Lake Chamber of Commerce ‘Local Taste Awards’ and more.
