Oakland Town Commissioner Rick Polland has issued a letter of resignation to Town Manager Andy Stewart and Assistant Town Manager Elise Hui effective Monday, Dec. 30.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to step down due to personal endeavors that would interfere with the time necessary to continue on as commissioner,” Polland wrote.

“This has been a very difficult decision for me,” he wrote. “I value the opportunities and experiences I have gained during the past 13 years serving the town as commissioner and appreciate the support from my colleagues and leadership team.”

He said he hopes the town will continue to seek Dark Sky Certification, which has been one of Polland’s passions.

The commission will be tasked with appointing a qualified resident to the position. Polland’s term ends in March 2026.
