The Ocoee Police Department is actively working an officer-involved shooting that took place around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, on Old Winter Garden Road just east of Hempel Avenue.
Officers confirmed at a media staging following the incident that one person was shot.
Vincent Ogburn, acting chief for the Ocoee PD, said the department received a call about shoplifting from the Walmart Supercenter off of West Colonial Drive.
When officers arrived on scene, loss prevention employees reported two suspects had left the store in a green pickup truck.
Police said the suspects were located but drove into another local parking lot where they then struck a patrol car.
Ogburn said the person in the passenger side of the car got out, raised their hands and were shot by an officer.
It was later discovered the suspect did not have a weapon in hand when exiting the car.
Both suspects were taken to the hospital following the shooting.
Police report the suspect that was shot has non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers believe one of the suspects is a juvenile.
No officers were hurt during the time of the incident.
Ocoee PD officers recommend taking alternate routes on State Road 50, as Old Winter Garden Road will be closed during the investigation.
