Orange County’s Parks and Recreation Department hosted a grand opening event for Taborfield Park Wednesday, Feb. 28, next to Castleview Elementary School in Horizon West.
The 6.5-acre park, located at 9025 Taborfield Road, features a playground, picnic area, fitness zone and more.
At the event, several Orange County officials shared words, including Parks and Recreation Manager Matt Suedmeyer, Mayor Jerry L. Demings and District 1 Commissioner Nicole Wilson.
“This is just one of the many parks we’ve opened,” Demings said. “Just two weeks ago, not far away from here, we broke ground on the 215-acre Horizon West Regional Park, and, in the near future, we’ll be hosting a grand opening for Summerlake Park, (which) will be located not too far away from here, as well. Over the last several years, we’ve seen this area grow tremendously … We want to make certain that we are creating these green spaces for our families.”
The representatives said Orange County will continue to invest in its parks and amenities to ensure residents have access to safe and enjoyable recreation spaces.
“Thank you for being patient and for seeing the bigger picture and understanding how much this is worth as far as our time, our energy and our investment,” Wilson said. “Being able to provide what we need for quality of life for our residents … the type of infrastructure investment that we make when we invest in places like this is quality of life, and when people look to open businesses or people look to move and want to be somewhere they look to places that have prioritized open space and park space. … For years to come, there will be memories made here.”
