A popular Dr. Phillips staple has closed its doors.

Slate, which has been operating since 2015, took to social media to make the unexpected announcement Wednesday, Jan. 3.

The business' website and Instagram post sports the same message: "To our wonderful customers, it is with a heavy heart we announce the permanent closure of our restaurant. We extend our sincere gratitude for your loyalty and support throughout the years. Farewell, and thank you for being a cherished part of our community."

Slate, located next to Trader Joe's at 8223 W. Sand Lake Road, was known for serving modern American cuisine.

No other statements from the business have been made regarding the closure. The eatery's Instagram has been wiped of all posts except the closure announcement.
