Windermere Little League’s softball team claimed the Florida 8-10 year old state championship title on Sunday, July 15. The Windermere All-Star group topped Callahan Little League in dominant fashion, winning the final game, 8-0.

“I couldn't be more proud of this group,” said coach Andre Visser. “Each one of them contributed to our success. Each one of them made this group a true team because they are all team players. They’re amazing not only as softball players but as kids and that’s really what I'm super proud of. They're a very respectful group, they listen, they learn and put in the work to improve.”

The dominant performance this group exhibited in the final wasn’t a one-off during their All-Star season run. No, it’s been quite the opposite actually, this collection of the best Windermere Little League 8-10-year-old softball players ran through the competition in the state championship tournament.

Over the nine games played in the state championship tournament, WLL’s bats were on fire, scoring 120 runs total; an average of 13.33 runs a game. Windermere’s depth from the circle was on full display during the tournament as well, allowing its opposition only seven combined hits for a total of 11 runs.

Of those 11 runs the Windermere All-Stars gave up, four came in one game, meaning in eight of its nine games, Windermere held its opponents to less than a run a game on average.

Next up for the group of elementary school ballers is the Southeast regional tournament, the final championship level available to the age group, July 26-28 in Clarkesville, Tennessee. The eight-team tournament will see Windermere represent Florida against Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
