West Orange High alum and former baseball player Sam Brodersen was selected in the 15th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.

A right-handed pitcher, Brodersen started his college career at Wingate University — throwing the final out for the Bulldogs’ Division II National Championship as a true freshman in 2021. After three successful seasons at Wingate, which saw him throw 212 strikeouts over 172 innings, he transferred to Louisiana Tech for his senior season.

At LA Tech this past season, Brodersen earned All-Conference USA First Team honors after finishing with an 8-1 record, only giving up 19 earned runs in 56 innings (3.05 ERA, team-best) and striking out 96 batters.
