Locals in West Orange County should expect road closures related to the Central Florida Expressway Authority's State Road 429 Capacity Improvements Project (Daniel Webster Western Beltway) this week.
Southbound S.R. 429 from Winter Garden-Vineland Road, Exit 19, to New Independence Parkway, Exit 15, will be closed overnight for roadwork from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, June 6.
Drivers will be directed to exit at Exit 19 and follow Avalon Road to access southbound S.R. 429 at New Independence Parkway.
In addition, Ocoee-Apopka Road under S.R. 429 will be closed continuously for bridge work from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, June 7, through Monday, June 10.
Northbound drivers will be directed to Harmon Road and southbound drivers will be directed to South Binion Road.
CFX warned the work could be delayed or prolonged due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction areas for their safety and for that of the work crews.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
CFX began the capacity improvements on S.R. 429 between Tilden Road and S.R. 414 to improve traffic flow and relieve congestion in January 2022.
These capacity improvements include expanding from four to six lanes — three lanes in each direction.
CFX is also adding wider median shoulders that can temporarily accommodate additional traffic during emergency response events, such as traffic accidents or hurricane evacuations. Noise walls are being proposed along the corridor.
To minimize impact to motorists, the project will be divided into three segments, each of which is anticipated to take two-and-one-half to three years to complete.
