The 14-year-old girl who died June 6 when a tree fell on the car in which she was riding was Windermere High School student Kayden Avera.

Principal Andrew Leftakis confirmed the girl was a student in a phone call to parents Friday, June 7.

“Today, I was notified of the tragic death of one of our students — Kayden Avera,” he said. “I know I speak for the entire Windermere High School community when I express the grief we feel at the loss of one of our own. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through this extremely difficult time, and we respect their privacy.”

Leftakis said grief counselors will be available at the school Monday, June 10, for students or faculty members who need to speak with someone.
