Windermere Prep has announced the promotion of assistant baseball coach Omar Peña to head coach. He will also serve as a middle school PE coach.

"We are thrilled to welcome Omar Peña as our new Head Baseball Coach," said Windermere Prep Athletic Director Patrick Hollern. "His extensive experience, both as a player and a coach, along with his commitment to developing well-rounded athletes, makes him the perfect fit for our program. We are confident that Coach Peña will lead our baseball team to new heights."

Peña joined the Windermere Prep baseball staff in 2024 as an assistant, he previously served as an assistant at Saint Monica Prep in California from 2022-23 and was the head coach at Gainz Athletic Facility in Beverly Hills from 2018-23 — specializing in sport-specific training and functional workouts for athletes of all ages.

Before his coaching career, Peña played baseball professionally for eight seasons — spending time in the minor league system with the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners.

At his alma mater, Northeastern University, Peña started at shortstop for all four of his seasons with the program and helped his team with the 2003 America East Conference championship. He also was a two-time Cape Cod League selection and part of the NECBL championship-winning team in 2000.

Beyond his coaching and playing career, Peña also holds certifications as a functional strength coach, TRX Certified Trainer, David Wolfe nutrition certified, and is a SPARK certified instructor.
