Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed about $900 million in state projects as he signed the 2024-25 $116.5 billion state budget.
“This budget delivers historic support for education, infrastructure and conservation, yet spends less than the year before and includes major tax relief,” DeSantis said. “We have paid down 36% of the state’s entire tax-supported debt over the course of my term, and the state maintains a AAA credit rating, one of the lowest tax burdens in America, and more than $17 billion in reserve.”
Several projects on DeSantis’ veto list are from West Orange and Southwest Orange. They include:
• Chase Road and Main Street Intersection Improvements — Windermere (HF 3345) (SF 1373): $3,250,000
• Windermere Water Master Plan North Phase (HF 3346) (SF 1372): $2,396,400
• Clarcona Ocoee Road Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Project (HF 2737) (SF 2855): $1,000,000
• Oakland — South Lake Apopka Septic To Sewer Initiative (HF 3341) (SF 2310): $650,000
• HAPCO Music & Culinary Education Programs (HF 2125) (SF 1294): $200,000
