The Winter Garden Squeeze win a third game in a row, topping the Sanford River Rats, 7-3, at A Game Field at West Orange High on Sunday evening; with six of the seven runs coming in the seventh and eighth innings for the home team.
This win not only pushed the Squeeze a game over .500, but it also put them in third place in the Florida League standings.
From the plate, outfielder Garrett Byrd led the way for the Squeeze, going 2-of-3 with one run batted in and a walk. Byrd's RBI in the 7th inning gave the Squeeze the lead and they never looked back, adding three more scores from Max McClusky, Cole Resetar and Tripp Landers in the following inning.
On the mound, starting pitcher Andrew Furey allowed one run and struck out five in his four-inning performance. Furey would share the win with relief pitcher Fisher Sheffield.
Winter Garden and the Florida League will take a four-day break as prospects from around the league will head to Lynchburg, Virginia to play in the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball Prospect Showcase from June 24 to 26.
The Squeeze's next game will be Thursday, June 27 at home against the Orlando Snappers, first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
