A Winter Garden man is facing second-degree homicide and destruction of evidence charges related to an overnight shooting.

According to Winter Garden Police Department reports, at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, officers responded to Azalea Way in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, the  officers discovered Carlos Perez, 32, on the ground with a fatal gunshot wound.

The suspect, Savion Lambert, 21, was taken into custody on scene after a brief standoff with law enforcement.

Lambert and Perez were allegedly friends, and the shooting appears to have been negligence exacerbated by Lambert’s clear disregard for Perez’s life following the shooting and attempts to conceal evidence, the report said.

Lambert is being charged with second-degree homicide and destruction of evidence. Officers located the firearm.

The department would like to thank the variety of witnesses and members of the community who came forward to provide statements and video in support of its efforts to keep the community safe.

If you have any information for this crime, contact Detective Sgt. Dave Clarke at (407) 877-4876 or CRIMELINE, (407) 423-TIPS, or use the Winter Garden Police Tip411 app.
