Hamlin Elementary School has been presented with $10,000 for new library books through a donation from McCoy Federal Credit Union and an anonymous Hamlin business owner.

Through McCoy Federal Credit Union's community service outreach initiative, McCoy Cares, the organization was able to donate $5,000 for the new books, which then was matched by a donation from the anonymous local Hamlin business owner.

The funds donated will be used to assist the school’s media center with meeting the AASL recommended standard of 15-20 books per student.

“Not only is literacy an important building block for students to establish a successful academic career, but books foster creativity and nourish imagination,” said Alvin Cowans, president/CEO of McCoy Federal Credit Union. “We are proud to work together with our community to support Hamlin Elementary School as they build their school library, and we hope that the students find stories that inspire them to learn.”
