With the regular season in West Orange and Southwest Orange County now officially over, only three area teams remain alive for the championship hunt: West Orange High and Dr. Phillips High in the regional quarterfinals of the FHSAA Class 7A playoffs and Legacy Charter in the SSAA Class 1A title game.

To get you set for these Nov. 15 playoff matchups, Orange Observer Sports Editor Sam Albuquerque gives you a few notes from each matchup to watch out for.

Let's get into it.

Playoffs

FRIDAY, NOV.15
Kickoff at 7 p.m.

Legacy Charter (4-6) vs. Cedar Creek Christian (5-5)
SSAA Class 1A Championship Game

In a rematch of the Eagles' final regular season game of 2024 — in which they won 36-12 — Legacy will host Cedar Creek for the title game. Watch for the home team's new offensive scheme, led by running back Brian Jean, to be a catalyst that should carry Legacy forward in this one.

West Orange (8-2) vs. Apopka (4-5)
FHSAA Class 7A, Region 2 Quarterfinals

Coming off a bye week, the West Orange Warriors welcome district rivals Apopka High back to Raymond Screws Field for the second time this season; having topped the Blue Darters 25-7 in Week 6. Sophomore quarterback Brian Dillard was a key factor in West Orange's win earlier this season as a passer, runner and receiver; racking up 221 total yards and two touchdowns.

Kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Phillips (9-1) vs. Tohopekaliga (6-4)
FHSAA Class 7A, Region 3 Quarterfinals

The Panthers of Dr. Phillips will host their first of two guaranteed home games of the playoffs — granted they advance to the next round — and are heavy favorites against the visitors from Osceola County. Given that Tohopekaliga lost in a 17-0 shutout to its lone common opponent with DP, Lake Nona High, and the Panthers routed the Lions 34-7, the good ol' transitive property tells us Dr. Phillips should win this one comfortably. Still, coach Rodney Wells and his DP team will need to get it done on the field.
