The Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital has welcomed Dr. Hany Takla to its team, which has expanded the organization's specialized health care services in the West Orange County community.

Takla, who will be based in Ocoee, is a board-certified surgeon at the Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute, which has been  recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Takla believes in providing quality care, surgical excellence and individualized attention to every patient.

He has completed more than 1,600 robotic procedures and more than 500 weight loss procedures.

“I’m excited to help launch this program at Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital," Takla said. "What’s really important to note with these surgeries is that weight loss is just one aspect of the benefits our patients' experience. It’s life-changing for them, as we vastly reduce co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension and improve overall quality of life.”

Takla’s specialties include bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, foregut and reflux surgery, and bariatric endoscopy.

Before joining Orlando Health, Takla served as a surgeon at several New England hospitals, with roles including medical director of robotic surgery, medical director of surgical services and chair of the surgery department.

He received his medical training from Cairo University Medical School in Egypt and completed general surgery residencies at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester. He completed also a fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Banner - University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona.

Takla, who’s from Cairo, Egypt, comes from a family of physicians, which initially spurred his interest in medicine. He’s fluent in English and Arabic.

Takla and his wife, who also is in the medical field, enjoy exploring the outdoors, running and kitesurfing.
