Here's a roundup of Week Seven's action from around West Orange and Southwest Orange County. Starting off with the Orange Observer Game of the Week: The First Academy's thrilling loss to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School. 


Week Seven

GAME OF THE WEEK

The First Academy (6-1), 42 

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (5-2, GA), 49

HIGHLIGHTS: In a non-stop offensive battle between two teams littered with college-level players on every level, the Royals of TFA fell to Rabun Gap after the Eagles scored the game-winning touchdown with 36.8 seconds left to play. 

Both offenses were on full display in this one, scoring a combined 91 points. The First Academy's attack was led by senior quarterback Salomon Georges Jr., who racked up 393 yards of total offense and scored four touchdowns. 

Through the air, Georges Jr. found his favorite targets on the season: junior receiver Demetrice McCray, who caught eight passes for 157 yards, and senior wideout Evan James, who snagged seven catches for 122 yards and one TD. 

Senior running back Dane Thompkins also caught five passes for 40 yards with one receiving touchdown to go along with his two rushing TDs and 49 rushing yards on 15 carries. Sophomore back Jaelyn Powell added 74 yards on 11 carries to the Royals' rushing attack.

UP NEXT: Next up for the Royals is their last Class 1A, District 6 — which they've already won after beating Orlando Christian Prep in Week Six — opponent of the season, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy Tigers. TFA will travel to Melbourne to face HTEA Oct. 11. 


FRIDAY, OCT. 4

Foundation Academy (2-4), 10

Eustis (1-5), 13

HIGHLIGHTS: The Lions of Foundation Academy fell on the road in this Week Seven matchup in heartbreaking fashion after giving up a touchdown to the Panthers with 10 seconds left in the ball. 

Foundation senior two-way player Steven Grecco scored the Lions' lone touchdown of the night, taking a screen pass 29 yards to the house in the second half, while kick Braedyn White hit a field goal to open up the scoring in the first half. Sophomore defensive back Cole Huntley grabbed an interception. 

UP NEXT: Foundation will be back on the road in Week Eight, as the Lions travel to Indian Rocks Christian (2-3) Oct. 11.


Legacy Charter (1-6), 0

Orangewood Christian (4-4), 73

HIGHLIGHTS: Legacy Charter struggled to slow down the Orangewood Christian rushing attack and fell to the Rams 73-0 at home. Orangewood ran the football for 173 yards on 25 carries with six touchdowns on the night and the Rams' defense also added a pair of interceptions to stifle the Eagles' offense. 

UP NEXT: The Eagles will face Bell Creek Academy (1-6) Oct. 11 on the road in Week Eight.


Windermere Prep (1-4), 20

First Academy, Leesburg (3-4), 38

HIGHLIGHTS: The Lakers went on the road to Leesburg and fell to the Eagles of First Academy, Windermere Prep's fourth loss of the season. 

UP NEXT: After an off-week, the Lakers will host Duval Charter (1-6) in Week Nine for its homecoming game and senior night at 6 p.m. Oct. 18.
