Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital in the city of Ocoee will offer two free vascular health screenings in September.

The screenings will include a quick and pain-free ankle brachial index test that checks for the presence of blocked or narrowed blood vessels that result in poor circulation, particularly in the legs.

Residents who are highly recommended for the screenings include those with high blood pressure or cholesterol; heart problems; history of chronic kidney disease; history of stroke or mini-stroke; ulcers or sores on the legs or feet that are slow to heal; pain in the toes or feet at night; and aching, cramping or pain in the legs when walking or exercising that goes away when rested.

Locals planning to attend the screenings should come in through the main entrance of the hospital before being directed to a table for on-site registration.

Those planning on attending should wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow easy access to the hands and feet, remove any fingernail and toenail polish the night before, and refrain from wearing or applying any lotion to the skin.

In addition, the drinking of caffeine and the intake of nicotine should be refrained from for at least two hours before the screening.

Participants must be able to lay flat during the screening for 20 minutes.

No pre-registration is needed for the screenings, and walk-ins are welcome.

The screenings will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, and Thursday, Sept. 19, at the hospital, which is located at 10000 W. Colonial Drive, Ocoee.
