The Bloom & Grow Garden Society will host its final pink trumpet tree giveaway and sale from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the city of Winter Garden facility, which is located at 238 W. Smith St., behind Crooked Can Brewery.
The organization expects a large crowd for the event, as last year all of the trees were gone in about the first hour.
The 250 free trees being given away this year are for Winter Garden residents only. Residents will be asked to show an ID at the event.
For those who don't live in Winter Garden or those wanting more than one tree, Bloom & Grow also will have 150 trees for sale for $20.
Agriform fertilizer tabs and Hydretain, as well as a planting/care sheet, will be included with each tree.
The organization also will have specialty designed Plant it Pink tree charms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month for $5. A portion of the sale price of each charm will be donated to the Jimmie Crabtree Cancer Fund.
Through Bloom & Grow's award-winning Plant it Pink initiative, more than 1,000 pink trumpet trees have been given away to Winter Garden residents.
While the organization has finished its planned giveaways and school plantings, Bloom & Grow is working with Habitat for Humanity and will plant a pink trumpet trees in 15 of its new homes this year.
In addition, the organization has agreed to donate 20, 3-gallon pink trumpet trees to Habitat for Humanity each year for each of the homes it rehabs in the Historic East Winter Garden Neighborhood.
The Bloom & Grow Garden Society aims "to stimulate a knowledge and love of gardening through promotion and sponsorship of community projects and the protection and sustainability of native habitat," as well as "to promote and sponsor educational horticultural experiences and civic involvement."
