The town of Windermere is bracing for impacts from hurricane Helene.

Town representatives say high water levels are already a concern, and additional rainfall may worsen the situation. Residents should exercise caution.

Boat ramps are open for residents who wish to remove their boats. However, the boat ramps are not for launching during this time.

Three town events have been canceled due to the storm: the Town Square Design Charrette Sept. 24, the Windermere Farmers Market Sept. 27 and Food Truck Night Sept. 27.

Locals who have stormwater grates in front of their home are asked to clean them before the storm hits to help ensure proper drainage and minimize flooding risks.

All construction site materials must be secured, stored or removed from the town limits to prevent them from becoming a safety hazard during the storm. Contractors are urged to implement their hurricane job site mitigation plan.

Residents are recommended to download the town of Windermere app to receive the latest updates on the hurricane.

Information on storm updates, potential sandbag locations and alerts from the Windermere Police Department will be provided through the app and the town of Windermere news page here.

More information on sandbag locations can be found here
