Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital’s joint replacement program has earned the Joint Commission's certification for disease specific care regarding hip and knee replacement.
The designation ensures patients are receiving the highest level of care for joint replacement surgery through the latest evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines.
A multi-disciplinary team at Orlando Health Horizon West hospital is leading the effort to provide care to patients. This includes instituting protocols along the continuum of care to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
“We’re so happy our team’s hard work has been recognized by the Joint Commission,” said Joe Khayat, Orlando Health vice president and president of Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital. “When patients trust us for their joint replacement surgery, they can rest assured that we have a team of specialists ready to guide them through each part of the process.”
The program covers all phases of care, ranging from pre-admission testing and surgery education to outpatient services like physical therapy. With a streamlined process centered around patient well-being, the goal is to allow patients to begin recovering at home within 24 hours.
Because of the program safety guidelines that have already been implemented, Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital has reported shorter hospital stays for patients, fewer readmissions and zero surgical site infections for joint replacements.
