The Windermere High boys weightlifting team has won the Class 3A, District 8 championship in both the Traditional and Olympia categories March 26 at East Ridge High.
“Extremely proud of the boys," said Windermere coach Riki Smith. "Horizon, Lake Mineola and East Ridge have outstanding weightlifting programs and I knew for us to have a chance, we had to be close to perfect. Everyone contributed, it was a total team effort for sure.”
Despite the Hawks claiming more individual first-place wins — six compared to Windermere's four — the Wolverines' depth helped them narrowly edge past their area rivals, 60-58 for the Traditional title and 64-61 for the Olympic crown.
Lake Buena Vista High finished fourth in both categories, while Dr. Phillips High finished fifth and Olympia High sixth in the Traditional category.
