The Bloom & Grow Garden Society completed its Monarch Project in downtown Winter Garden Wednesday, Aug. 10, with a ceremony at the butterfly park on Plant Street. Two bronze commemorative plaques were unveiled in front of Flora, the bronze butterfly that soars near the splash pad.
Representatives from the city of Winter Garden; the McNamara family, which donated half the cost of the sculpture; members of Bloom & Grow; and artist Don Reynolds were in attendance.
The bronze plaques were ordered more than a year ago, publicity chair Joyce Carcara said, but it took twice the time to be cast because of the pandemic.
“This is the final step for Flora, but we will continue to advocate for the endangered monarchs,” she said.
Bloom & Grow has multiple sales each year in which residents can purchase milkweed and other butterfly-attracting plants. The next one is in September.
