Behind an explosive offense and staunch defense, West Orange dispatched Lake Mary in a 34-7 win Friday, Oct. 2.
After giving up a touchdown just three minutes into the game, the Warriors (1-1) reeled off 34 unanswered points throughout the game to hand first year head coach Mike Granato the first win of his West Orange coaching career.
The Warriors' scoring started late in the first half when Terrell Walden ran it in for a 6-yard run with 3:44 left in the half, before Tyson Schwalbach recovered a fumble and returned it for a short touchdown less than 20 seconds later. Walden would finish the night with 112 yards on 11 carries.
In the third quarter the Warriors would pick up three scores, which started with a 3-yard touchdown run by Joanes Polynice, before Jaden Floyd snagged an interception and returned it 19 yards for the touchdown with 7:41 left in the third quarter. The Warriors last score would see quarterback Tyler Huff hit Jayden Gibson for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Huff went 6-for-15 for 131 yards, while Gibson caught four passes for 84 yards.
West Orange will return to action Friday, Oct. 2, when the Warriors take on Windermere (1-1) at home.
