VERO BEACH The West Orange softball team defeated Tampa's Alonso High 6-0 in the FHSAA Class 9A State Championship Game on May 7.
Lauren Mathis pitched a shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 15 batters. Lexie Blair and Jade Caraway each had a pair of RBIs on the night, while Sam Golden and Maggie Wheless also each drove in a run.
